Gary Gilbert, former head of United Citizens for Better Neighborhoods, in an interview with Channel 2 at City Hall, defends the city against charges of police racism.

A lawsuit against the city of Antioch, charging that police are racially targeting African-American recipients of Section 8 housing subsidies, has been revised and expanded to include a fifth named plaintiff and more than 800 unnamed plaintiffs.

The city is planning to sell this 1-acre site at Laurel Road and Main Street to be used for the construction and operation of a daycare center.

City officials are seeking buyers for a city-owned, 1-acre site on the northeast corner of Laurel Road and Main Street who will build and operate a child care facility on it.

The Union Pacific Railroad’s Moccoco Line, which runs through East County (and beneath Highway 4, above), has been used mostly for train storage. Local officials are concerned about a plan to run as many as 40 trains on that line each day.
East County residents living near the little-used Moccoco railroad line will likely need to get accustomed to the house-shaking, horn-blaring roar of as many as 40 trains rumbling by each day. Those trains also will lead to traffic tie-ups at several major intersections.

A few days ago, Brentwood resident Luke Kearney and his wife Laura bought a couple of tickets to see the latest Batman thriller, “The Dark Knight,” and like the rest of the audience, they were thrilled by both the Oscar-buzzing performance of the late Heath Ledger and Christian Bale’s tormented portrayal of the caped crusader, but the Kearneys saved their greatest applause for a different performer.
